Birmingham Wylie E. Groves High School

Athletic Hall of Fame Qualification Standards
 

Student Athlete (must)

  1. Be a graduate of Birmingham Wylie E. Groves High School.
  2. Have completed their interscholastic athletic career at GHS and earned at least one varsity letter in the sport(s) they are being considered for.
  3. Have achieved at least one of the following:
    • All-American, All-State First Team, All-County First Team
    • All-Conference more than once from a reputable media or coaches organization source
    • Attained a profession as an athlete
    • Conference or school record holder
    • Conference Player of the Year
    • County individual champion
    • Lettered in at least three different sports
    • Participated in good standing in at least two years of collegiate athletics
    • State individual or team champion
    • State or national statistical champion
    • State or National Player of the Year honors from a reputable media or coaches organization source
    • U.S. Olympic Team member
    • Varsity Captain in more than one sport
    • World or national record holder
  4. Be seven years removed from their interscholastic athletic eligibility.
  5. Have represented GHS in a positive fashion both as an undergraduate and as an alumnus.

 

Teams and/or Subgroups (relay teams, etc.) (must)

  1. All must be graduates of Birmingham Wylie E. Groves High School.
  2. All must have completed their interscholastic athletic career at GHS and earned at least one varsity letter.
  3. All must have represented GHS in a positive fashion both as an undergraduate and as an alumnus.
  4. Achieved one or more of the Student Athlete bullet points listed above.

 

Coaches and administrators (must)

  1. Employed at Birmingham Wylie E. Groves High School for a minimum of (1) year and:
  2. Are retired, five years removed from employment at GHS, or have reached the age of 60.
  3. Have conducted themselves in a fashion such as to bring credit to Groves Athletics.
  4. Have an athlete achieve one or more of the Student Athlete bullet points listed above.

 

Distinguished Alumni (must)

  1. Must have earned a varsity letter
  2. Be five (5) years removed from their time as a student at GHS
  3. Have conducted themselves in a fashion such as to bring credit to Groves Athletics.

 

Special Contributors (must)

  1. Be retired, five years removed from involvement at GHS, or have reached the age of 60.
  2. Have conducted themselves in a fashion such as to bring credit to Groves Athletics.

 

Deceased contributors

  1. In any of the above categories are immediately eligible for induction to the Hall of Fame.

 

Other Hall of Fame Candidates

  1. In extraordinary cases, by votes of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee, GHS community members and former athletes may be admitted for membership without satisfying to stated requirements.  Extraordinary cases should be interpreted to include, but not be limited to, premature termination of an athletic career due to injury or similar situation wherein the athlete’s accomplishments after leaving the school have brought great credit and recognition to the institution.

 

All nominees must have a nomination submitted on their behalf detailing the special nature of their achievements and/or contributions to society as a student-athlete, alumnus or special contributor.
